  About Students' Council

What and Why?
Student council is a curricular or extra-curricular activity for students within grade schools around the world. Present in most public and private K-12 school systems across the United States, these bodies are alternatively entitled student council, student government, Associated Student Body, Student Activity Council. Student councils often serve to engage students in learning about democracy and leadership, as originally espoused by John Dewey in Democracy and Education (1917). According to the Student Council of Ireland, "A Student Council is a representative structure for students only, through which they can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and its students."The student council helps share students’ ideas, interests, and concerns with teachers and school principals. They often also help raise funds for school-wide activities, including social events, community projects and school reform.

The Students' Council at IndusValley

At Indus Valley, the Student Council is comprised of individuals who are willing and ready to perform and direct change for the student body and the institution. The council thrives on coordinating co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, community service, promoting cultural exchange, & creating awareness for social and civic responsibility. All events and activities are channeled through a proper panel comprising of department heads, coordinators, school administration and respective year representatives. Many requests, queries and proposals are almost always brought forward by the students themselves. The council is there to bridge communication between the Institution and its students. It is there to ensure voices and concerns of the students are heard and the Institution lives up to its prestige and pride. As per tradition, the council members are elected under the ideology of Democracy. The Student Council Elections for 2009 were conducted in December of 2008 to ensure that the new council was ready and decided for the new term.

The SC ’09 team comprises of:
• A faculty member and Instructor who oversees to most council matters as the Chief Executive Officer, Ms Ghazal Pirzada
• The President and Vice President. Ahmed Shajee Aijazi and Rahat Rafiq respectively; both are in their final year of
Communication Design.
• The Committees: Event Management, Budget and Finances, and the Academic Committee which falls under Liberal Arts
• Batch Representatives: Final Year, Third Year, Second Year, Foundation Year

Outside the council, there's great assistance from the Educational Director and Administration, the Liberal Arts head, Ms Aisha Dar and of course, the IVS Committee for Brand Communication.
The council strives for change and constant improvisation, God willing it will sustain its aptitude and fulfill its purpose.
